2015 Must-Have House Music Releases

By Molebogeng Mangoale

As 2015 gets nearer to an end,  there’s no doubt that this year has served as a good one for music. The second semester of this year saw many of our favourite house music artists release new albums. It has also been confirmed that others will be releasing new musical projects in 2016. Culoe De Song, Da Capo and Unplugged are one of those said to release albums next year.

In no particular order, here is our selection of house albums that we feel you should have (if you don’t have them already) in your musical collection for 2015:

Heavy K

The drum boss came back with a bang this year with another house music offering. As one of South Africa’s hottest young producers, Heavy K just keeps proving that he is here to stay. His latest offering, Respect The Drumboss, has tracks such as  ‘Sweetie,’ ‘Umoya’ and ‘Broken Heart’ amongst others. He also worked with the likes DJ Tira, Nokwazi Professor and Mondli Ngcobo.

Zano Urban

Although he says he does not define himself as a house music artist but a music artist in general, it is no doubt that Zano is one of the most recognised vocalists in the house music industry. He released his first album under his independent record label this year titled Colours of My Soul.

Prince Kaybee

He may regarded as a ‘newcomer’ to the house music industry but this Bloemfontein talented young producer, real name Kabelo Motsamai, has been in the industry for five years. His current hits ‘Don’t Give Up,’ ‘Better Days’ and ‘Wa Jellwa’, have become harmonious summer anthems and  can be heard all over the airwaves. A winner for the second season of SABC’s 1s and 2s, Prince Kaybee released his debut album ‘Better Days’ in October and it features the likes of Ziyon, Audrey, Black Coffee and more. He is one talented man to look out for in this industry.

Black Coffee

As one of SA’s most anticipated albums for 2015, Black Coffee’s Pieces of Me lived up to its expectations and is sure one of the hottest releases for this year. In less than two months , his album has reached platinum status and guessing by the look of things, it might go double platinum soon. Click the link to read our full review of Black Coffee’s album.

DJ Micks

Having started producing at the age of 13 as a hobby, it is no wonder DJ Micks is one of the most finest house producers in the country. The  Pretoria born DJ released his 2015 album House of Love and we can confidently say it is nothing short of a good sounding album! ‘Hamba’ on which he features songbird Lebohang.

Revolution came back with a brand new album this year called Moribo- a Sepedi word meaning ‘Rhythm’. The album has 14 tracks and features artists like Msaki and Weza Solange amongst others.

DJ Fresh

One of SA’s legendary house music artists, DJ Fresh has come a long way with a career spanning over three decades in the industry. He recently released a compilation album titled Fresh House Flava (Vol 8). Check it out here

 DJ Malwela

DJ Malwela released a compilation album called It’s Not A Party Without Us that features hits such as Whistle Song by DJ Mshega and Back To The Beach by Shekhinah feat Kyle Deutch amongst others.

Rocco Rodamaal

Highly respected for his deep and soulful house tunes, Rocco Rodamaal released a compilation album of a series of his classic and unreleased projects. It features hits such as ‘Something about you,’ ‘New Awakening’ and more.

DJ Shimza

The one thing you have to respect about Ashley ‘DJ Shimza’ Raphala is that he is a hustler of note.  When Soulistic Music announced earlier this year that Shimza would be releasing his album, many could not wait to hear what this young businessman held when it came to production skills. Needless to say, his album received good reception from his fans.Read our review of it here.

Mi Casa

House music trio Mi Casa released their studio album Home Sweet Home earlier in October. Their song ‘Chocolat’ has been making waves on radio.

Monique Bingham

Referred to as the first lady of House music, Monique Bingham is the soulful lady behind some of this genre’s best classics. She released her album ‘Best of the last’ which is a compilation of a decade of  her best work in the industry. It features well-known collaborations with the likes of Louie Vega, Ralf Gum, Black Coffee, Chymamusique and Kerri Chandler amongst others.
